Cindy Jechow on Pole Dance in Germany

Cindy Pole Dancing

While really popular in some places, pole dancing is just catching on in others. In today’s interview, you get to meet Cindy Jechow and learn about the pole dancing scene in Germany.

How did you start pole dancing?

In March 2003, I worked as a driver because in my job as a saleswoman I don´t earn enough money. But I wanted to change my job and a friend of mine told me about a club where I could earn money by dancing on a pole. I had never done this before, but she thought it was the right work for me. Then I tried it – and loved it from the first day. I had a natural talent! But after one and a half years, I took a break. It´s not easy to earn money in Germany just with pole dance. You have to sit and drink with men, make conversation, and so on. That´s not my kind of thing; I don´t like it. But I missed pole too much and, when I got an alternative offer, I took it. Just dance, no contact with guests.

In April 2008, I started to be an instructor for pole dance but, unfortunately, it wasn´t the right time for it in Germany and also the studio was too far from my home. With a little luck, I´ll get the key from a garage near my flat soon. There´s a pole and I can start to teach again. And, the main thing, for myself, I could do my exercises whenever I want. That´s not been easy in the past. Just could do it when I was at work because I didn’t have my own pole.

What is the pole dancing community like in Germany?

In my opinion, in Germany, the pole dancing community is still to come.

How do you think the pole dancing community in Germany differs from pole dancing in other countries

In Germany, nobody knows exactly what is pole dance. They don´t know it as a kind of real good fitness (of course there are obvious exceptions). Everybody associates it with sex and erotique. We are in baby shoes with the right pole dance. Just two competitions we’ve had, the first in 2007, I believe.

What do you like to do when you’re not pole dancing?

  • Teaching pole dance.
  • Take inspiration from YouTube and Facebook (love to be in contact with so many amazing pole dancers from all over the world).
  • Working at my homepage.
  • Friends are very important for me.
  • Love music, good literature, and sometimes watching Dr. House, to take a break from everyday life.

Favorite makeup tip:

As much as necessary, not as much as possible.

Barefoot, sneakers, or platform heels?

Barefoot for trying out new exercises. For dance and real fitness, it has to be platform heels.

Favorite grip enhancer:

Magnesia powder and my own sweat.

Pole dance move that made you proudest to learn:

Not easy to answer. For example, Bow Bridge, Superman, Teddybear, and some kind of Aysha. But first I´m proud that I never had a professional instructor or visited a workshop – just taught myself and learned by doing. Sadly I still miss a little bit more flexibility for some of the moves, but I´ll never stop trying ….

Pole dance pet peeves:

The answer to question 3. Sometimes it´s hard to be a pole dancer in Berlin. The clientele isn´t even the best.

Favorite treatment for bruises and sore muscles:

Dolobene Gel On. Very good for bruises and much more.

Who would you most like to have in the audience when you pole dance?

My best friend. He has never seen me real dancing.

Who is your hero or role model?

I think there are a lot of amazing pole dancers like Jenyne Butterfly, Alesia Vazmitsels, also Tracey Simmonds. But my absolute favorite is Felix Cane. I love her and I would say she´s my idol. Every time I see a video from her, I get goosebumps!

What are your favorite words of encouragement?

Everybody has his own style, not try to copy anybody. But more important: everybody was a beginner in the past.

Favorite pizza toppings:

I don´t like pizza so much. But many cheese is important.

Cupcakes or ice cream?

I love Häagen Dazs ice cream. ChocChoc Chip.Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
