Eliza Cole of Pole Sinsations

Meet the fabulous Eliza Cole, pole dance performer and pole dance instructor at Pole Sinsations.
How did you get started studying pole dancing?
I was working at an exotic dance club and became fascinated by the pole. I HAD to learn more! I bought a Peekaboo Pole and stuck it in my kitchen!
How did you make the leap to teaching pole dancing classes? What was that like?
I got to a level where I was aware I was performing the most tricks of the girls at my club, and I began wondering how I could help advance them. I set out fliers for private lessons, and soon was hired in at Pole Sinsations San Diego Pole Studio. It has been a blast being able to share knowledge about pole tricks and dancing! I firmly believe in helping others in areas we are capable of. We can all learn from each other!
What is the first thing you teach students just starting to take pole dancing classes?
Stretch before and after!! You will injure yourself eventually if you don’t!
You have considerable background in both contortionism and ballet. How do you bring that knowledge into your pole dancing?
I study contortion and ballet in San Diego and it has made a massive difference in my pole ability. So many tricks require extreme flexibility. And also the ballet adds strength and grace to performances. I am still learning and growing and think I’m not near the level of the greats in pole … yet. Practice practice … perfect practice!
How do you take care of yourself, given all the classes you teach and your own personal workouts.
I stretch constantly. If I don’t, after a day or so I am beyond stiff!
Favorite makeup tip:
Less is more.
Barefoot, sneakers, or platform heels?
I prefer barefoot, yet I am not opposed to heels.
Favorite grip enhancer:
Haha! My boyfriend is a drummer and has this green stuff called Gorilla Snot … it works wonderfully!
Pole dance move that made you proudest to learn:
The ones I created, and also Chopsticks, which is a frontal hold split.
Pole dance pet peeves:
Booty shaking.
Favorite treatment for bruises and sore muscles:
More pole dancing!! And Arnica.

Who would you most like to have in the audience when you pole dance?
My boyfriend. He’s always the photographer so he doesn’t really sit and just watch. I also love when the crowd are pole dance fans. They are more enthusiastic versus strangers who could care less.
Who is your hero or role model?
Felix Cane. Her fluidity, flexibility, and strength are my goals! Yet always stay original; that’s what separates you from the rest!
What are your favorite words of encouragement?
Keep your head up! Pole dance is a long road with lots of falls, bruises, and pains. Keep on moving forward and you will always see results! Always love the pole!
Favorite pizza toppings:
Maple syrup.
Cupcakes or ice cream?
Oh, both please!
What do you like to do when you’re not pole dancing?
I am an abstract artist so I am frequently drawing and coloring. Also, writing is my first passion next to dancing. I read a lot, as well. Stretch a lot, too!
Anything else you’d like to share:
