Kristen Novosad on the pole!

Meet the stunning and fabulous Kristen Novosad of DivaFit!

How did you get started pole dancing?

I got started in pole dancing when I was looking for a change up in my regular work out. I was taking other dance classes, doing a bit of rock climbing, etc. I find the gym is just way too boring for me to hold my attention for any length of time. So, a co-worker of mine said one of her friends in California took pole dancing classes. Of all things POLE DANCING I said, well I HAVE to look into this! So I googled pole dancing lessons and, what do you know, a local studio popped right up! I dragged about three other girlfriends with me and we took an intro class. It was love at first spin! I couldn’t get enough of it and just about four years ago now is when the addiction started. I took a hand full of classes in April 2008 and, by October, I was a certified pole fitness instructor and never looked back! I’ve been teaching at DivaFit ever since.

How would you describe your personal style?

Hmmm. good question. I would say, athletic with a touch of hot sexy!

What is your biggest struggle as a pole dancer?

Well, probably the stereotype of the general public that we are all strippers. Not to mention “over” training. I tend to work so hard I find that my body and joints just can’t do that much at once. I really have to focus on pacing myself especially when I’m trying to learn something new. So I suppose avoiding injury is my biggest struggle. OH and that pesky phoenix … I’m going to get that one of these days!

Barefoot, sneakers, or platform heels?

Platforms!! :) (Make my legs look longer, lol!)

Pole dance move that made you proudest to learn:

Wow – ALL the moves I get make me proud I’ve obtained the strength and flexibility to get them. If I had to pick one, I would have to say the Iron X … that took FOREVER!

Pole dance pet peeves:

Not many because I think the entire sport is fantastic. However, my biggest pet peeve probably is sharing … I can’t stand when people (obviously other than in a private lesson or teaching) want to “pole jam” and then they just want you to teach them everything you know, but don’t bring anything to the table to share. I want to learn new stuff too!!!! :) lol

Favorite music to pole dance to:

Currently my favorite music to dance to is slow rock type songs … however, I go back and forth from that to some hip/hop and R&B. I feel those type of songs more than anything else.

Weirdest place you’ve ever poled:

Hmmm. Probably would have to be in a children’s playground in the middle of a beach resort, lol. OR on a tree, yes that’s right on a tree … lol.

Pre-performance rituals:

Tke a deep breath, stay warm, keep moving and stretching … I tend to rub my hands together a lot, like a nervous habit. It makes me feel like I get a better grip or something. OH and don’t freak out!!

Who would you most like to have in the audience when you pole dance?

Audience, the bigger the better! When I’m on stage I have an out of body experience. I hear the music and just go. So, the more the merrier! The people I would want most in the audience are people I can inspire to dance.

Who is your hero or role model?

Love Jenyne Butterfly and Alethea. I think they have such a memorizing stage presence, I could only hope I can capture a crowd like that!

Favorite pizza toppings:

Pizza … ALL of it … except pineapple … however, that’s only when I eat it … which isn’t very often. Mmmm pizza – you’re making me hungry!

Cupcakes or ice cream?

ICE CREAM all the way 100%. Love me some ice cream!

Strangest pole dancing question/comment you’ve ever received:

“Ummm so do you like do this, all the time? Like at night and stuff?” …. LOL ok I know what you’re implying and, no, I only am a pole fitness instructor and competitor, nothing else. ;) Then they said, “OH, well you should be, you could make a ton of money doing that.” Hahah thank you, flattering. However, I have enough on my plate.

What do you like to do when you’re not pole dancing?

When I’m not pole dancing/teaching, I have a full time job as a Physical Therapy Administration Supervisor and Billing Manager. I spend time with my husband, dog, and cat. I like movies and shopping (especially for shoes) and love to curl up with a good book! Spend time with friends and party it up with my Divas! :)
